Ali in Abu Dhabi

THIS is my official first blog.  Back in May, I received a job offer to teach abroad in the United Arab Emirates on a 2-year contract, teaching English to children.  It is part of the new reform to enable their children to all become bi-literate.  Yes- it is on the other side of the world  Yes- I have never lived more than 3 miles from where I grew up   Yes- I’m TERRIFIED……but I have also never been someone to turn away from something because of fear.  (not to mention I will be making over DOUBLE the measly salary I am making now)   Now that I know I will be teaching at a demonstration school that has the best of technology, I am very anxious to start this adventure.  My goal is to blog the good, the bad, and the ugly, over these next couple of years as a way to keep my friends and family informed to the adventures of this Arizona Gal.  Not to mention- I’m hoping it will help me keep my sanity????  Stay tuned…… plane leaves in August! (oh yes, I still have NO idea when I’m leaving- so bags are tentatively packed until then)  sigh…….

    • Best wishes to you on your journey! It’s interesting how so many Americans are taking jobs outside of the country now, to work, and make more money. I met three men on the plane from Kuwait that worked in Afghanistan, coming home for R&R. (not service men, just employed there).

My husband, Michael, has been in Kuwait now for 2 1/2 yrs. It’s good money, tax free too, but difficult to live apart for so long. At least you know an end to your trip.

I met a girl on our travels to Istanbul, that had gotten a teaching job in Spain for two years…she and her husband both…they are returning to midwest USA next month, and she is so happy to be going home. We’ll miss you…however, you will have a once in a lifetime opportunity of many new experiences. Good for you!!!

      • Thank you, Samia. I’m sure it must be difficult going more than 2 years! I’ll have to talk to you sometime about that “tax free” situation. I’m hearing SO many conflicting stories on that!
